22 May 2016
Alliance Française recently hosted a screening of the movie Human by Yann Arthus -Bertrand, a French environmentalist.
In attendance were diplomats among them Anne De la Blache, French ambassador.
The movie was set to be screened in all the Alliances Françaises of Southern Africa to celebrate World Day for cultural diversity which will take place on May 20.
HUMAN is a 2015 documentary by French environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand and the film is almost entirely composed of exclusive aerial footage and first-person stories told into the camera.
It was the first movie to premiere in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations, to an audience which included UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Pusetso Morapedi, employee at Alliance Française Gaborone indicated that HUMAN is a collection of stories and images of our world, offering an immersion to the core of what it means to be human. “From stories of everyday experiences to accounts of the most unbelievable lives, these poignant encounters share a rare sincerity and underline who we are – not only our darker side but also what is most noble in us and what is universal. Our Earth is shown at its most sublime through never-before-seen aerial images accompanied by soaring music, resulting in an ode to the beauty of the world, providing a moment to draw breath and for introspection,” she said.
She further said HUMAN is a politically engaged work which allows us to embrace the human condition and to reflect on the meaning of our existence and that the documentary would be screened in the Alliance Française network, on Friday 20 May, in celebration of the World Day for cultural diversity.
“Screenings will take place in Bulawayo, Mbabane, Cape Town, East London, Johannesburg, Lusaka, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth,” she said. ENDS
