The BOT50 golden youth bash has proved that Batswana musicians are talented.

In an interview during the Youth Pop Up Bash hosted in Lobatse to start the nationwide celebration recently, Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng, said time was now for promoters to realise that Botswana musicians were talented enough to pull a crowd and host a successful show.

He said when he came into the ministry, he made it clear that he would unearth youth talent, especially in the music industry.

“There is no need to bring in a foreign artist to pull a crowd. Batswana are crowd pullers and have great talent.  They can make it on their own without foreign artists,” he said.

Olopeng aka DJ Tipps cited his Christmas celebration in Tonota, which drew over 30 000 revellers.

He said the turnout for the Lobatse show impressed him.

He said it was also a sign that Batswana were looking forward to celebrating the country’s  50th independance anniversary in style.

He advised the youth to be responsible citizens and desist from deliquency during such events.

Olopeng made a special appearance as DJ Tipps alongside the Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Sadique Kebonang aka DJ Sadique.

They took to the decks and mesmerised the audience with their mixes.

For his part, Kebonang said: “This is a special time for Batswana to celebrate. I therefore call on all to embrace the celebrations”.

He implored Batswana to appreciate their own talent and to support Botswana musicians.

He also advised artists to take their careers seriously for their followers to take them seriously. Ends
