Street Horn celebrates Jazz day
03 May 2016
Street Horn, a music promotion company that specialises in jazz and African music, held an event to celebrate International Jazz Day over the weekend.
The commemoration, which was held at the Stanbic Bank Piazza, Molapo Crossing mall was combined with the monthly Jazz at the Piazza sessions which are in their second month now.
Despite the low turnout, it was a fun filled event where parents brought their children along to enjoy the day.
The event started in the morning as it catered for both the elderly and young while activities included among others music, face painting and jumping castle.
The three hour Duma FM jazz programme also broadcasted live from the event and after the live programme, DJ Milton and DJ SK entertained the revellers with jazz, classics and oldies.
Speaking in an interview, one of the show organisers, Soares Katumbela said the main objective of the Jazz at the Piazza sessions was to fill that gap where older people seemed to have limited entertainment activities or places where they could go for recreation.
“As Street Horn, we specialise in entertaining with jazz and classics, so we saw it fit to have such an initiative for older people to have somewhere to go on weekends for entertainment,” said Katumbela.
He said the Piazza sessions idea had proved to be a welcome development as the second leg had shown growth given the number of people who attended compared to the inaugural show.
Katumbela also encouraged jazz lovers, especially the elderly to attend the sessions for their entertainment, which he said were held at a more relaxed and secure place, the Stanbic Bank Piazza.
He therefore thanked the Molapo Crossing mall landlord for the support of the initiative as they had offered the venue as sponsorship. Ends
