Serite Sebola mention May 10

27 Apr 2016

Gaborone Extension 2 Magistrate Court will in a fortnight be updated on the development regarding the case involving a freelance journalist and a records officer at the Office of the President (OP) .

Briefing the court on Tuesday, the prosecutor from Broadhurst Police Station assistant superintendent Tlotlang Balatlhwa said he had just been given the docket this week and needed some time to study it and would therefore be in a better position to update the court in the next mention.

Freelance journalist Sonny Serite and Abueng Sebola are facing charges of receiving stolen property and stealing by servant respectively.

It is alleged that Sebola handed over some information contained in a file belonging to one officer named Tsaone Nkarabang at OP.

The alleged crime happened sometime in March this year and both accused are out on conditional bail of P5 000 each.

They have been reporting to Central Police Station on a fortnight basis but their lawyer Mr Martin Dingake has successfully argued that their bail conditions be varied so that Serite who stays in Metsimotlhabe reports himself at Mogoditshane Police Station.

On the other hand Sebola who stays at Phakalane Estates will now report at Phakalane police post.

In the meantime magistrate Ntombizodwa Ncube, who presides over the case, ordered the prosecution to handover some statements to the defence by Friday after attorney Dingake prayed that they be furnished with such documents to prepare for their defence case.

The case will come for another mention on May 10, 2016. ENDS
