Exemplary men vital for church image

The synod mission council convener of UCCSA Botswana Mr Onkarabile Otlaadisa has urged the church’s male congregants to be always focused on the growth of their church despite the challenges they encounter.
When officially opening the UCCSA Men’s Ministry Synod conference on Saturday in Serowe, Mr Otlaadisa said the aim of the two-day conference was to mould a unique generation of responsible and God fearing men in the church and society.
He said the men’s ministry had a potential to produce enviable and exemplary men in the society.
The workshop, themed Christ is calling: Participating in suffering and struggle, had attracted members from the church’s six regions across the country.
Mr Otlaadisa encouraged members to work as a unit to ensure that their church enjoyed growth yet upholding the church’s values.
He said, like any entity, they were likely to encounter challenges which they should be able to overcome as spirit-filled beings.
The convener said although the men’s ministry was still in its infancy, they had welcomed it as a church, an indication that they welcome developments.
The man of God urged the conference attendees to use the conference as a platform to exchange ideas that will help enhance their Ministry which is a gesture that will enable them achieve the goals intended.
The out-going Synod men’s ministry chairperson of UCCSA Botswana Gaaipone Lesedi said their aim was to empower men to be responsible at work and at home as caretakers.
He said men should be mindful of their roles as protectors and providers of their spouses and children.
Mr Lesedi said they realised the need to empower men after observing so much violence, aggression, jealousy in relationships and anger in the society.
The synod secretary Mr Mmoloki Ntesang said they were also concerned by men’s laxity in church affairs; hence the birth of the men’s ministry.
He said most of their church members were women; hence the intention to rope in more men. Although they are presently focusing on the men within the church they intend to embark on outreach programmes to involve more men in future.
Mr Ntesang said the hope was also to see more young adults taking part in men’s ministry, adding that since the ministry’s formation in 2012 men were forthcoming as they are attending their activities in numbers. ENDS
