Friday night saw the glitz and glamorous beauty pageant for public officers in Lobatse contending for the Mr and Miss Public Service 2016 crown.

Public officers and the southern town's community thronged the civic hall to witness a tight competition amongst various public officers on the ramp, outclassing each other to snatch Lobatse District’s Mr and Miss Public Service title.

Both men and women who strutted the ramp took to stage some marvelous performances as they rocked the ramp with confidence to show their fellow colleagues that they came prepared to snatch away the title under the nose of 22 contestants.

Their first parade showcased traditional attires, with ladies wearing phayana while men strolled in animal printed vests and their second parade was amazing as they painted the hall in the national flag colour of blue black and white vests and jeans.

The third parade was irresistible, as the contestants rocked the stage with stylish and stunning evening dresses while the gentlemen also did not lose touch on their tastes.

They also came wearing classic suits in a variety of colours from top brands to make their own statements.

After an intense competition by all the contestants, Lobatse police employee, One Botiki emerged the queen after showing boldness in answering tough questions, while Zodwa Ditsele from Lobatse

Brigade scooped the first princess; Onkemetse Kwelagobe, also from Lobatse police, was crowned the second princess.

Mr Public Service was won by Moses Mathubadifala from Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital who gave his opponents a tough competition from the beginning.

Prince Oagile from the Department of Building and Engineering Services (DBES) was crowned the first prince while Thomas Makgawane from Lobatse Town Council (LTC) was crowned the second prince.

The audience was kept in a vibrant mood by local artists in the likes of Mosako, Mingos, P-Mag and Skazzo.

In her welcome remarks, Lobatse deputy district commissioner, Boitumelo Mokwena urged all public officers and the community to wear Botswana colours on Fridays to sustain preparations towards Botswana's 50th anniversary celebration.

She said the public service would also be celebrating 50 years of existence, and that they have activities lined up in preparation of the public service day commemoration.

She said the beauty pageant was organised as one of the activities meant to mark the celebration of 50 years of the public service.

Mokwena also implored public servants to abide by the Public Service Charter and Public Service Act in their daily operations to create a productive workforce that delivers quality services to the public at all times. ENDS
