Sejoe to attend De Cannes film festival

Local female film maker Tumi Sejoe will attend this year’s De Cannes Film Festival in France from the 11th to the 22nd of May after her short film, Awakened Spirit got the nod.

The festival De Cannes is an international film festival which takes place every year to celebrate cinematographic art.

Speaking at a press briefing recently in Gaborone, Sejoe said it was through hard work and dedication that she made it into De Cannes festival.

She said she had been involved in the film and television industry for over 10 years and had experience on both local and international productions.

Awakened Spirit is Tumie’s directorial debut as an independent artiste. It is a universal story of self-discovery set against the backdrop of Botswana’s culture.

It is a 15 minutes film with Setswana dialogue with English subtitles. The film’s targeted audience is aged between 15 and 65 years.

It features some locals such as Pauline Kgwarapi and Gaolapi Basuhi who have starred in local dramas like Re Bina Mmogo.

Sejoe was also involved in the production of The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency as a third assistant director, under the direction of the late Anthony Minghella. The Hollywood flick starred Jill Scott. ENDS
