Botswana Cultural Association which is fully owned by 10 youths who are 25 years and below is intending to host health awareness games in Masunga in order to raise funds to help a less privileged student.

The chairperson of the association, Bernard Monanyane said in an interview that their association is also aiming at promoting activities that could positively change the lives of the less-privileged in Botswana.

He said through these health awareness games which would be held on May 28, the association would be raising funds in order to donate stationery and a study table set to one less-privileged student in Masunga, through the assistance of the Social and Community Development (S&CD) office of the North East District Council.

He said their plan was to spend not less than P2 000.

He further noted that the games which would consist of football, volleyball, netball and athletics would also help promote a healthy lifestyle for the community of Masunga and other surrounding areas as well as promote team work among government departments and other private sector players within the district.

For his part, a member of the association, Mothusi Morapedi also indicated that even though their main aim is to raise funds, they also found out that people did not take sports seriously and that some did not train at all, and therefore they wanted to try by all means to encourage people to take physical fitness seriously as it promoted healthy living.

He also indicated that they had invited different stakeholders such as testing centres for different diseases and health posts to offer their services like HIV and diabetes testing and blood donations.

Morapedi also noted that even though they were longing to help the country in job creation and help fight poverty, start-up capital was a challenge to them. He said they also planned to offer some small services such as clearing yards, cutting grass and washing cars on a house-to-house basis in order to raise funds.

He also stated that their ambition was to have a suitable and comfortable office space and to see their association grow, hiring more youths and helping Batswana across the country. ENDS
