14 Apr 2016
Police in Kazungula are investigating cases in which two young women aged 22 and 24 have been accused of child negligence.
Speaking in an interview, Kazungula Station Commander, Superintendent Vusimusi Jorowe said they had received a call on Sunday from an eyewitness that a child aged two years was seen walking and crying in one of the bushes of Kazungula and that they took the child to the hospital for checkups.
He said later that day, they received a call that a baby aged about two had been locked alone inside the house for hours and was heard crying by neighbours.
“It is not the first time we have received such cases, we have even had cases where three months old infants were left alone and locked inside the house and this is worrisome,” added Supt Jorowe.
He said they have managed to locate the mothers to the children and that one was under police surveillance.
Both are facing child neglect charges and will soon appear in court. ENDS
