King Mcee promotes Sengologa in song

Keduetswe Mokwaleng (23) has defied the odds to earn a living from music. Affectionately known as King Mcee, the artist combines house kwasa with folk music and mbaqanga. He sings in Sengologa, which is widely-spoken in the Kgalagadi area. He said he wanted wider society to appreciate his native language.
The Hukuntsi native’s music promoted social harmony. He explained in an interview that he realised he was gifted in music when he used to lead the Sunday school choir at his church.
His mother encouraged him to take his singing talent seriously.
King Mcee said his mentor was musician, Scavenja, whom he met in 2013. He related that Scavenja taught him about the importance of perseverance in the music industry. He saidt he released his debut album, Mmaonyana, in 2014 which sold more than 200 copies. The album had six songs namely Mmaonyana, Chomi ya Bana, Mami, Batswana, You are so Great and Twerka.
King Mcee said the title track was motivated by a woman she met while working hard towards establishing his music career. He said the woman was his support structure. The artist performed at most places around the country. He performed at weddings and nightclubs clubs.
He said that he intended to shoot a music video for one of his songs. The reception to his latest single, Zoma Dance, had been exceptional, more especially in the Kgalagadi and Ghanzi areas.
He was working on establishing a fashion label called King-Mcee to help diversify his product offering. He encouraged youths exploit their talents to make it in life. ENDS
