Public servants must always put the interest of their country first and serve the nation wholeheartedly and diligently.

An official from the office of the district commissioner in the Mogoditshane sub council, Sekgabo Makgasa said this during the Kweneng Mr and Miss Public Service pageant recently.

She said Mr and Miss Public Service aims at celebrating development and contributions and to appreciate public servants for their input in the country’s development. “To be Mr and Miss Public Service is not only about your looks but also about good heartedness and a good mind,” she said.

However, she also said one should be able to represent the people and the district and their country when crowned the winner.

Furthermore, Makgasa also pointed out that as a civil servant one should always be prepared to serve the nation with patriotism.

For her part, one of the judges Zenzel Harshfield said she was pleased with the way the contestants showed passion and zeal to win.

The pageant was judged in three categories which were wearing national colours, traditional attire and also formal wear which included suits and dresses.

Mogoditshane, Thamaga senior council secretary, Milton Ketshokile said the public service was an essential tool to place Botswana on the map when there was hard work and dedication.

The winners of the Kweneng pageant will compete for the national crown with winners from other districts. Ends
