Two of Botswana’s high riding musicians, Bolokang BK Proctor and Maureen ‘Bouncy’ Maila are set to play host to two accomplished Nigerian artistes in the first week of April.
Emeka Iwundu and Bolo J are expected to be in Botswana for the inaugural and highly charged festival dubbed “Lead Guitar Night” penciled for Gabane’s new and popular joint DNC Entertainment Lounge on the 2nd of April. Bolo J is a South African based Nigerian artiste making waves in the diaspora.
He has in the past collaborated with celebrated Nigerian muso David Adedeji Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, and has taken his music across the continent with his unique singing.
He has also done a song with Uhuru, better known for producing South African afro pop group Mafikizolo’s hit song Khona.
Speaking in a phone interview from his base in South Africa, Bolo J described his music as afro pop infused with reggae. Emeka is based in Lagos and does a combination of different genres.
Although he doesn’t have an album to his credit, the lively Emeka has performed in sold out shows across the continent.
He is looking forward to perform in Botswana as he prepares to release his debut album later this year. The youngster is also a visual artist.
In the local acts, Bouncy, as Maila is affectionately known in the showbiz industry, has a plethora of honours under her belt.
Bouncy recently travelled to Harare where she had an amazing show at the Green concert featuring international names such as Winnie Khumalo and Ringo Madlingozi.
The versatile hip hop artiste yearns to make a mark internationally and rubbing shoulders with the Nigerian duo will come as a bonus.
BK Proctor’s name is synonymous with local hit songs.
He is a renowned producer and it came as no surprise when he decided to put his own track together.
With his vast knowledge and experience in the music industry, Proctor said he decided to produce his own album as the next chapter in his career to re-position the course of urban music in Botswana.
He has collaborated with South Africa’s legendary jazz muso, Jimmy Dludlu and Botswana’s internationally acclaimed house producers, Groove Cartel and other singles.
In an interview local promoter Fatima Gabatshwane said they wanted to forge a working relationship with a tinge of cultural exchange between local artistes and their counterparts from outside.
She said with its large client base Nigeria can become a potential market for Botswana artistes. Ends
