Kick starting her musical career was never a bed of roses, but she never allowed hiccups to engulf her dream.

Ramotswa born jazz artist, Poifo Motladiile started her journey with My African Dream in 2000 where she only made it to the finals.

Although disappointed by the outcome, her passion for music became the only driving force that kept her moving. And she subsequently became part of Tselakgopo Traditional Group which released its first album in 2006.

 Already in her early thirties, Poifo said the group, which was made of up of two members, released three albums before they agreed to part ways.

“I never allow obstacles to stand in my way,” Poifo said in an interview. After going solo, the former traditional singer has found bliss in contemporary jazz music, which she says has contributed to her growth in the musical journey.

“My first solo album was released in November 2012, titled The Journey, which earned me positive feedback and encouraged me to release my second album last year,’’ she added.

The Kgodumo hit maker says she recorded her albums at Heartbeat Studios in Gaborone produced by Presley. When asked about the lucky man in her life, she laughed off saying she was happily single.

Besides spending a lot of hours in the studio, she explained that she works as a sales executive at one of the private newspapers.

The singer, who is known to the legion of fans by the name Poifo, said jazz has helped her music career as she was now able to do live shows and play instruments.

She added that she has already toured neighbouring countries such as South Africa and further described her voice as the strength that helped her to stand out in the music industry.

Despite all the hard work she applies into her work, Poifo confessed to the existence of some challenges which were trying to pull her down.

On top of the challenges is the lack of a manager as well as finance which could aide her to buy musical equipment. Ends
