No inability in DJ LCs disability
17 Mar 2016
Having been involved in an accident that left him wheel chair bound at the tender age of 15, Motshwari Lesedi Machire has managed to stand against the odds and dropped a sizzling hot single Sound of the Drummer.
The house music single that features DJ Oats and Mel-D was released in December 2015. According to Machire, the song has been well received with more than 900 downloads.
Though he is one of the most successful DJs in Boteti, Machire, also known as DJ LC points out that living with disability has not been an easy journey, “not being able to do what your peers do to being ridiculed and being told you would not make it in life is the most traumatic part of living with disability,” he says.
Having been raised by a single parent, living with disability and being a breadwinner in a family of five children was not easy for Machire.
Through God, he points out that he was able to find strength, collected pieces of his life and moved on. The strength he draws from God, he says inspired the name DJ LC which stands for Light of Christ.
His love for music started in 2012 while he was hospitalised.
When the ordeal occured DJ LC was a Form two student at Ditsweletse Community School in Letlhakane.
“Having spent six months in hospital, I was bored and one night I could not sleep so I tuned into Radio Botswana 2 (RB2) where I was met by DJ Guveiya, I liked the music he played,” DJ LC points out.
Through the help of Orapa Mine Hospital employees and Naledi Motors Machire was able to acquire a wheel chair, two speakers, an amplifier, micro phones and an air combiner.
The energetic DJ points out that he is forever grateful to DJ Kan who taught him how to play the decks in 2013.
During that same year, Machire says that he applied for the Youth Development Fund (YDF) in order to upgrade his DJ equipment and play professionally.
Today DJ LC plays on all the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture (MYSC) events in Boteti, weddings and parties.
His track plays on Yarona FM and RB2 and he hopes to distribute it to other radio stations.
To give back to the community DJ LC donates to hospitals during the festive seasons to help hospitalised patients. He is also a member of Gabotsalelwe, a group of people living with disability, where they come together to discuss matters affecting them.
The sky is the limit for the young man who hinted that he will soon launch a taxi business and create jobs for the youth in Letlhakane.
DJ LC encouraged people living with disability to work hard because nothing comes easily in life and he strongly discouraged them from abusing drugs and alcohol. Ends
