03 Jan 2013

A 27-year-old man of Mbalambi in the North East District has been taken in for questioning by police over a rape incident.

According to Masunga police station commander, Superintendent Kgotlaetsile Oodira, the man allegedly raped a 24-year-old woman on December 30 in Mbalambi.

Supt Oodira said the man, who is in police custody, claimed to have had an affair with the victim, but the woman denied such.

He said the woman reported that the man tried to propose love to her and when she refused, he dragged her to his homestead where he forced her to undress and raped her. The matter was reported the same night and the suspect arrested.

Supt Oodira cautioned men to treat women with respect and understand that when a woman said 'no', she meant it.

Meanwhile Supt Oodira appealed to the community of Masunga to help arrest the culprit who broke into a house on December 30.

He said the thief broke into the house during the day while the owner was at work. He stole a jacket and a radio amounting to P350. ENDS
