Ghanzi fashion show has potential

07 Mar 2016

The first ever Ghanzi fashion show lived up to patrons expectations.

The show organised by Hoodville Investments, brought eight Ghanzi designers with five of them being youth funded.

The show displayed leteise attires, African prints as well as Herero dresses designed into modern trend.

With only six models showing main designs, the showed potential to grow.

Although a first in Ghanzi and relatively below the standard fashion shows, Ghanzi grand fashion show had some of the elements of a great fashion show which kept patrons entertained.

Entertainment was the highlight of the show especially with the Flat Cap boys, a dancing quartet which kept the audience busy.

Dressed by FactGhanziRocks designer, the quartet in blue and red sweat tops danced many of their popular zoma dance moves.

The duo dubbed Svutho, entertained the audience with their inspired K.O ‘skhanda luv’ hip hop rendition, reminding the patrons of the many songs by one of Teargas’s member K.O.

Earlier during the day, the organisers of the fashion show held a workshop for designers.

However, the workshop did not attract many designers.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport’s culture programmes officer, Duncan Sengwaketse, expressed concern at the low turnout of designers.

Sengwaketse said such workshops were aimed at giving designers an opportunity to interact and share ideas with each other and enhance their creativity.

Nevertheless, he encouraged the organiser of the event Mompoloki Kelebeng to persevere and grow the brand in the community.

Sengwaketse said Ghanzi is a town which is abundant with ideas and that youth need to tap on them and make a living out of them.

He urged youth in Ghanzi to realize and use their talents, and that they should not sit on them but seek assistance on how to nurture and blossom their talents so that they earn them income.

Kelebeng also said he was disappointed at the low turnout of designers at the workshop despite prior invitations.

He said workshops of this nature are meant to empower them as designers and also expose their creative works eventually diversifying their trends and income.

The designer dresses were judged with winning dress walking away with P2 500, while second best getting P2 000 and P1 500 going to the third best designer of the event.

All models were appreciated with P300 each and not limiting their designers to also give them something out of their winnings. One Kootlole scooped best designer price with an African print dress.

Ghanzi Grand fashion show had a sponsorship of over P47 000 from Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture. Ends
