Hoodville Investments will on March 5 showcase the first Ghanzi Fashion Show at Ghanzi Community Hall.
The fashion show, which has attracted eight local designers, is aimed at giving young people an opportunity to explore other income generating ideas away from the beef industry which is dominant in the area.
The organiser of the event, Mompoloki Kelebeng said Ghanzi does not only pride itself with beef, but says there are other creative means that the youth can venture into and diversify the economy of their district.
The fashion show, which will be held under the theme: Traditional modern dress, will be showcasing designs made from traditional and vintage cloths.
Kelebeng says the theme explains that one can still be fashionable in a traditional or print material designed in their preferred modern designs.
Kelebeng also said the fashion show will allow designers to showcase the culture of Ghanzi in attire, and presenting it to the patrons as a diverse town.
He also added that designers garments will be judged with the best designer walking away with P2 300 while second best getting P2 000 and P1 500 going to the third best designer of the event.
He said the rest will be consoled with P500.
Kelebeng said this is not a payment but an appreciation to all designers, and also giving them something to cover costs incurred during the show.
Models, Kelebeng explained, will also be appreciated with P300 each, adding that this is a way of encouraging the young people that they can choose the creative arts as a career.
Although the amount is not standard rate for models, Kelebeng noted that this is a start and they will improve with time as the brand grows.
The Ghanzi Fashion Show is supported by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture and Cash Society. Ends
