25 Feb 2016

Batswana are known for upholding a strong sense of culture.

Consequently, Lobatse leadership saw it fit to organise Lobatse Culture Day at Motswedi kgotla today (Friday February 25).

The event would also ensure the passing of cultural knowledge to the new generations.

In an interview,  Kgosi Motsamai from Motswedi/Thema kgotla said some people might think that traditions were outdated and no longer relevant

However, he said cultural heritage offered a robust variety of benefits as it could give people a connection to certain values, beliefs, religion and customs.

He said culture was an important aspect that made up a strong nation and without culture the society would become desolate.

He also said culture could provide an automatic sense of unity and belonging within a society allowing others especially the youth to get a better understanding of the previous generations and their history.

He indicated that Kgosi Mosadi would be the guest speaker and activities will include traditional cuisine, traditional games such as diketo, mhele, dikoma and dikhwaere.

Furthermore, he said they will be exhibition stalls that would allow exhibitors to share skills and impart knowledge to the youth about preparation of traditional food such as bogobe jwa lerotse and others. Ends
