Police in Kasane have arrested a 43-year-old man following an incident in which two men were knocked down by a Toyota Conquest car and the driver drove away leaving them lying unconscious.
Kasane Police Station Commander Superintendent Silton Fidzani told BOPA in an interview that the two men were knocked down by the car along the Central Transport Organization (CTO) road while exercising around 530 am.
He allegedly left them lying on the road driving away and the car involved was later found in Kazungula.
“After finding the car, we had to look for the owner in and around Kasane as well as Kazungula and later we found him at Kazungula Ferry Gate, where he admitted that the car was his and also that he drove away after hitting two people earlier that morning,” Supt Fidzani added.
He also said that after thorough investigations, they discovered that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol and without a driver’s licence and also his vehicle was found not to be road worthy after the Department of Road Transport and Safety inspection.
Furthermore, Supt Fidzani noted that the two victims are recovering with minor injuries at Kasane Primary Hospital.
He advised motorists to drive carefully and stop drinking while driving, and to report accidents to the nearest police station as soon as they happen. Ends
