Court orders William to pay over P 1.9 million
14 Feb 2016
Pending his intended review application to be heard by the High Court, the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) can now recover P1.9 million from Mr David Loftus William, the graft busting agency has said in a press statement.
The release says the amount was deemed to be the value of the benefits derived by Mr William from serious crime-related activities qualified as stealing by a person employed in the public service contrary to Section 271 as read with Section 277 of the Penal Code Cap 08:01.
The DCEC reveals that the court ordered on November 9 that Mr William pay the Botswana government the civil penalty order in the amount of P1,912,582.26.
Consequent to the order, Mr William approached the Broadhurst Magistrate Court seeking that it suspends the November 9 order.
“The applicant, Mr David Loftus William stands charged with 38 counts of stealing by a person employed in the public service in a criminal case registered at Broadhurst Magistrate Court before His Worship Ndlovu,” the DCEC pronounces in the press statement. Ends
