Accused pleads guilty to drunken driving
11 Feb 2016
Mpho Mokwena (49) pleaded guilty to a charge of drunken driving before Jwaneng Magistrate Segametsi Basinyi this week.
The accused was charged for excessive drinking which was above the permissable limit. The court heard that the accused was stopped by traffic officers on June 27, 2015 around Marakanelo Avenue after realising that he was driving a vehicle which had no number plates.
The police officers also established that the accused was in possession of alcohol and was tested for drunken driving, whose results were positive.
The prosecution presented the breathalyser certificate, the operating officer’s qualification to operate the machine as evidence before court. The magistrate also noted that the accused did not waste the court’s time as he had pleaded guilty to the charge. The case continues on February 22, 2016 for presentation of previous convictions.
