Lerala Cluster holds Back-to-School
09 Feb 2016
An organisation of teachers calling itself Lerala Custer over the weekend held an event dubbed Back-to-School near Martins Drift border post to revive the spirit of teamwork and reminisce on their school days.
The event, which had nothing to do with school going pupils, attracted multitudes from different parts of the country and neighbouring South Africa.
The school uniform was the theme and the occasion was colourful as revellers put on their former school uniforms.
The DJ’s made sure that they give the revellers the best of old school music that most of them used to dance during their school days. One of the organisers of the event, Gorata Keabotsa said in an interview that the motive behind was to instil the sense of taking education seriously within the community and team spirit within teachers and parents to start the new year with a new spirit and appetite for success.
She said the event, which is held annually in the area, started as a team building exercise at Lerala Junior Secondary School and it feels new every year.
She said they found it necessary to expand it to include other public servants and the community.
She said it was important for public servants to include the community because they can end up achieving the results that the employer needs.
She said the event, which was in its third year, is held at the beginning of the year to ensure that public servants get off to a productive start.
Keabotsa, who is a teacher at Lerala Junior Secondary School, said the organising committee will hold a meeting after the event to assess the event and plan how they can improve it next year because it is growing.
“We might think of reminiscing about our old school days while raising funds to do something for the community,” she said.
She thanked the owner of Kwa Nokeng businesses near Martins Drift border post for providing them with the venue free of charge. ENDS
