Jimson finds solace in music
07 Feb 2016
From the agony of losing his closest family members within a year to battling with alcohol and smoking addictions, Mooketsi Jimson has been able to take solace in music and turn his life around.
According to the 21-year-old man from Mosu, burying himself in the bottle and cigarettes seemed like the only way to forget his problems.
“I used to fight a lot after drinking, it is by luck that I am not in jail right now,” he said
“Eventually, I joined a scout group in Letlhakane where I learnt about discipline and different survival skills.
It is through the group that I discovered my talent for singing,” he pointed out.
According to Jimson, also known as Kathuntsha by his music fans, through music, he was able to open a new chapter in his life.
Music kept him busy and has helped him to stay sober.
In 2015, Jimson was able to stand against all odds; together with 10 other members of the scout movement and formed Kathuntsha Traditional Dance Group.
As the founder and lead singer of the group, Kathuntsha dropped a sizzling hot album titled Genesis.
Traditional dance music fans will fall in love with the six track album consisting of songs such as Motsadi; where he sings about his late mother, Genesis; the song that encourages Batswana to go back to their roots and embrace their culture especially now that the country celebrates 50 years of independence and Bulang Dikgoro; a plea to Batswana to support their music.
Like most upcoming artists, Jimson decried lack of income as one of the challenges he was faced. He promised to take the CD to Radio Botswana for airplay soon.
“I would like to encourage the youth to use their talent and stay away from alcohol and drug abuse because it will only destroy their future,” he said. Ends
