Indian Classical Music Concert back

Carnatic Classical World Musician, Sankaran Namboothiry, recently had revellers spoilt, as he made an appearance in Botswana, courtesy of the Indian High Commission at an event dubbed, Indian Classical Music Concert.

Namboothiry, who is described as one of the finest singers of his time, is said to be endowed with the mellifluous voice that enthralls his listeners. 

“During the show, he was able to appeal to most audience, as he could easily render an elaborate ragam-tanam-pillavi in an uncommon talam, an unusual duppu, and amuse his audience with the popular and semi-classical songs,” explained one of his fans.

Accompanied by other artists, such as Majoor Renjith on the violin, Balakrishnan Kamath, on the mridangis, which a similar to a drum, and Manjoor Unnikrishnanon the ghatam, which he amazingly played using both wrists and even his stomach to  string together a rhythmic pattern throughout the show. 

In an interview, acting High Indian Commissioner to Botswana, Charge d Affaires, Challappan Gurusubramanian said Botswana was involved with India’s external cultural relations through cultural exchanges with other countries and their people.

For some time, he said the exchanges were not done.

He said they were now working on exposing some of their ideals and philosophies and that the show shall be a yearly event.
