Maregere fights cyber crime with book
27 Jan 2016
The escalation of cyber crime in our communities continues to be one of the hottest topics all over the world.
This situation calls for every single individual to come on board and help in every way possible.
After hearing the whistle, 32-year-old Paul Maregere of Zimbabwe, found it fit to use the skills and knowledge he amassed during his studies to contribute in the fight against cyber crime that is now threatening to bring the whole world to its knees.
He produced a book titled, Keep Your Money Safe-Volume 1.
Maregere said in an interview that it was at White Collar Crime Centre in Cape Town where he studied for a degree in Cyber Crime Analysis, specialising in digital forensics, where the seed was sown.
He added that all the skills he acquired in this institution plus the certificate of proficient he got from the Zimbabwe Institute of Insurance (ZII) equipped him with all the knowledge that can be shared with the whole world.
“When I heard everyone talking about cyber crime and all the damage it is causing to our communities, I found it imperative to come on board and utilise the little knowledge I have to the benefit of the community.
Writing a book was the first thing to cross my mind. “Look, people are using technology for the wrong reasons.
So it is up to us to fight with every relevant tool we have to stop this virus.
Cyber crime is escalating rapidly and something needs to be done about it,” he lamented.
He further stated that he was raised in a family where his father was a policeman, and therefore providing security to the community is not something foreign to him.
He said his father wanted him to be a policeman just like him.
“I can confidently say that I am following on my father’s steps even though I am doing it a different way,” he said.
He also stated that this book has been prepared with the basic materials that can easily be digested by all consumers across all sectors of life including those with low educational background.
Obvious Tiro, one of the readers who seem to have enjoyed it, wished to encourage other individuals to utilise the book since it is easy to understand and also has important and useful information.
“To me, this is a must have book.
It is a complete package. I am not that much educated, but I can easily understand it.
It has been prepared in a wonderful way. This is the best guideline you can ever think of,” Tiro said.
When asked about Volume 2, he said he was already working on it even though it would be a bit advanced.
He said his wish was to see people reading Volume 1 in large numbers so that they could be able to adjust to the realities on the ground and manage to stop the spread of cyber crime.
Maregere advised the public to take the book seriously since it discusses a wide range of issues regarding the methods people should adhere to in order to equip themselves against some of the sophistications the criminals normally use to rob people.
“This is the package I have for the community.
People should always be on the alert and appear tough.
Cyber crime does exist, that is one thing people should bear in mind.
So we must all wake up and fight,” he said. Ends
