Stock theft increase in Kgatleng
26 Jan 2016
Police in Mochudi are worried by escalating stock theft crimes that are committed by cattle rustlers at different cattle posts in Kgatleng District.
In an interview with Superintendent Olebile Sitale of Mochudi Police Station, he said crime incidents prompted them to intensify their policing in those areas by forming patrol teams that were now bearing fruit.
He said in the past 10 days they caught two vehicles carrying meat which was confiscated as the owners could not account for it.
Superintendent Sitale said they have arrested three men who would appear before the Mochudi Magistrate Court to answer for charges of stock theft.
He said they were still looking for others who ran away during the intervention and asked Batswana to help arrest them.
Superintendent Sitale said they have realised that cattle rustlers drive cattle into the bush and slaughter them for butcheries in and around Tlokweng.
He appealed to cattle owners to look after their animals to prevent them from being stolen and killed by criminals.
He also encouraged Batswana to work closely with the police and report any criminal activity they see around their communities. Ends
