21 Jan 2016

Gaborone West Police are optimistic that they will soon catch up with two armed robbers who made away with a lap top computer and a cellphone which they snatched from a woman last Saturday in Block 6 near Universal Estates.

Speaking on Tuesday January 19, the station commander of Gaborone West Police Station, Superintendent Agreement Mapeu said they were only able to arrest one of the three robbers who remained in the vehicle while his two colleagues confronted the woman before grabbing the bag which contained the items and running away.

The woman appeared to have been from work when she met her odeal at the hands of the young robbers.

Superintendent Mapeu said the incident took place  at around 1:30pm, and that the two suspects who are still at large threatened their victim with a pair of scissors and a knife before accomplishing their mission.

He said although they managed to evade police arrest at the time, he was optimistic that they would be arrested.

Meanwhile their arrested partner in crime, who is aged 19, was among others charged for armed robbery and driving a vehicle while unlicensed.

The vehicle is reported to belong to his elder brother, who has also been charged for giving an unlicensed person a motor vehicle to drive, though he maintains it was taken without his consent. The arrested suspect, who stays in Broadhurst at Extension 20, reports himself to the police while investigations continue.

Upon the arrest of his partners in crime, they would be taken before the magistrate court to answer charges of armed robbery.

In the meantime, police have impounded a vehicle which was used during the execution of crime, and is likely to be produced as an exhibit during trial, Mapeu confirmed. Police also recovered two chargers for both the lap top and the cellphone from the impounded vehicle. Ends
