Vintage clothing undying passion

It is hard to keep up with what is in and what is out, in terms of fashion nowadays, however, one trend that has stood the test of time and does not seem to go out of fashion is the cute, stylish vintage clothing.

Modern people seem to be inspired by this unique wear which brings in a modern twist of vintage dresses, making them just the right option for a range of events, occasions or even work clothes.

BOPA reporter had an opportunity to interview the fashionist, modelling producer, and stylist,  Queen Kolobe of  Madam  Queen Modelling Agency who said nowadays things have changed as people want to go an extra mile to look unique.

“More people these days are becoming adventurous. They use old clothes that were worn in the 80’s and 90’s and create their own unique style so that they look smart and different from other people,” she said.

She said such people feel that if they look unique, with their own image, they will stand out from other people with their own trend so that others follow them.

“It is all about one being a trendsetter, so they want to create their own image which will be identified with them by showing off the new, improved, old garments in order to portray their taste and style for fashion,” she said.“Everyone in this field wants to look fashionable, others may choose the cowboy look, the smart look, or even the outgoing or conservative look, depending on their tastes,” she noted.

She said the fanatics of vintage clothing usually play around with clothing that was worn in the past by shaping them according to their preferences hence making them stylish and more appealing.

“It is all about being creative as the intention is to entice others without destroying the essence of the old garment,” she said.

She however noted there were different fanatics citing that there were those who prefer just to admire others wearing such clothing, but would not wear the outfits as they preferred modern clothing while there were those who actually admired and wore the clothes and felt more comfortable in them.

Kolobe said although such clothes were in abundance in the rural areas the trend was more common in cities and towns where there was competition of style and fashion and people want to make an impression.

“I feel that vintage clothing is the way to go as it teaches people not to forget their roots. We are not supposed to lose our culture and it is good to recycle and teach the young what used to be worn in the past,” she said. Ends
