Sky Lounge hosts World Supermodel auditions

Botswana’s edition of the World Supermodel auditions was this past weekend held at Sky Lounge at CBD to choose representatives to compete in the competition last year won by Nature Inger in Fiji.

World Supermodel is an international competition for models aged 20-28 (adult category) and 16-19 (teenage category) and provides an opportunity for young ambitious women to be identified and applauded for being talented, articulate, fit and healthy.

Speaking in an interview, last year’s winner, Nature Inger indicated that the World Supermodel competition was created to find out the next leading world supermodels regardless of their marital status.

“The competition is eligible to female citizens of Botswana aged between 16 and 28 years old and they are required to be a minimum of 1.7m tall,” she said.

With the competition slated for Bloemfontein, South Africa from March 12-21, this will be the ninth annual production and the overall winner will receive a one-year modelling contract with Trump Model Management in New York.

Nature Inger last year made history when she became the first ever Motswana representative to be crowned the World Supermodel as the overall winner of the World Supermodel Competition.

Inger is now involved in the auditions to find Botswana’s next representatives at the World Supermodel Botswana and over the weekend they came short of the numbers.

“We only managed to get three adults and seven teens over the weekend and now we will be scouting for 17 adults and 13 teens and we hope to be done by the end of this week,” she said.

She said they gave much attention to physical appearance above everything else and also looked for someone who has a good command of the English language.

Inger was being assisted by three other judges and she indicated that United States of America celebrity Rashgene Gazi-White will host the 9th Annual World Supermodel production and it will be broadcasted live on Go Indie TV.

“What hurts me the most is that when I came back from Fiji, I had a proposal for the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture to host the competition as it would have been the first time it would be hosted in Africa and they gave me the run around,” she said, adding that it would have been an ideal situation for her to hand over the crown on home soil.

She further said the competition would have been good for Botswana’s tourism as it would have brought significant foreign travel to the country.

“Botswana had an opportunity to host the international event and I pushed the international host country proposal for about 5 months trying to make it happen, but there was minimal interest and a slow to non-existent response rate, whereas South Africa responded to host in only 48hours.” said Inger.
