Maun police probe rape incident

14 Jan 2016

The police in Maun have appealled to the public to assist in the search of a culprit who raped a 50-year-old woman at Shashe ward in Maun on Tuesday night.

Station commander, Superintendent Peter Gochela, said the woman was raped while sleeping and the suspect ran away after the incident.

He said his district recorded 104 incidents in 2014 while last year they recorded 92.

However, he said they had experienced a reduction in the incidents and noted that indeed it shows that the offences are under control.

He attributed the closure of a certain club as a contributing factor to the reduction of the incidents.

The club was closed towards the end of last year as it failed to comply with bye law regulations.

Still in Maun, a 38-year-old man of Disana ward was founding hanging from a tree in the bush some metres away from his home on Tuesday.

Superintendent Gochela confirmed the incident noting that the deceased was an employee at Delta and Safaris Company based in Maun.

He said the deceased was found by a passer-by who reported the matter to the police.

He said the deceased did not leave any note but suspected that he could have had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend.

Superintendent Gochela said his family had no clue on what could be the cause of his death. Ends
