Music artistes survive on selling their music and shows, and they normally make a lot of killing during festive season, when revellers are in an impulsive buying mood.
For Kwasa Kwasa star, Frank ‘Franco’ Lesokwane this festive season compared to other years businesses more- especially at the shows was much better as people turned up in good numbers.
He told BOPA in an interview that he suspect that people came to his shows in large numbers after learning that there was an extention from 12 mid night to 2 am.
“I thought it was communicated late. But I pray that next year if there is such arrangement it should be fully publicised in order for people to come in large numbers at our shows,” he said.
Franco further said the arrangement benefited him given that nowadays they fully depend on shows because CD selling was not that rewarding due to piracy.
He said piracy would continue to disadvantage artistes and that currently he has only managed to sell about 3000 copies of his latest album ZENG ZENG, released in May last year.
The problem is piracy and individuals continue to rip musicians of their talent. People share our music, right know you will buy a CD and share with your colleague. Do you think we can sell more,” he said
Franco said before the modern technology he could sell about 40 000 CD’s, adding nowadays things have dramatically changed, hence they depend on festivals, shows and music launch for a living.
He said the only thing that make him to survive are his loyal fans, who have vowed to continue to support and buy his product.
He said it is important for government to continue to review laws in particular for artistes to benefit, given that festivals are their only means of survivals. Ends
