Veteran radio personality passes on

A veteran radio personality, Amogelang Gabanakgosi, has passed on and her memorial service will be held today (December 18) at 12 Apostle Church in Broadhurst.

Gabanakgosi died on December 15, at her home in Tshweneng in Gaborone after a long illness.

She started working for the then Department of Information and Broadcasting in 1972 after quitting her teaching career.

During her stay at Radio Botswana, Gabanakgosi’s focus was on women issues and she was well known for the popular programme dubbed ‘’Tsa Bommaetsho” which was focused on issues related to women and their household chores such as raising children and cleanliness.

She went to China in 1995 to represent the radio station at the Beijing Women Conference where a lot of changes in all spheres of women empowerment took place.

Gabanakgosi was born in April 18, 1945 at Goora Tsima ward in Kanye and was the fifth child of Mr Oabile and Mrs Momphi Gabanakgosi.

She started her primary education in Kanye and went to Seepapitso IV Senior Secondary School and later wto Serowe Teacher training College and upon completion worked at Maisantwa Primary School in Kanye until she joined Radio Botswana in 1972.

Gabanakgosi will be buried on Saturday at Broadhurst Cemeteries.

She is survived by five siblings and three children, two daughters in-law and six grandchildren. Ends
