Kanyi kwa Zhipa festival to celebrate artists
08 Dec 2015
The first Kanyi kwa Zhipa music festival is scheduled for Francistown Club on Saturday (December 12).
Speaking in an interview recently, the founder of Events Live, Gregory Sekga said the initiative came about to expose, celebrate and recognise musicians in Francistown and surrounding areas.
“Kanyi ko zhipa means home is nice. The music festival presents Francistown united DJs and artists only. I have realised that most artists do not know each other; they never meet to share ideas and benchmark,” he said.
He noted that this event would give them an opportunity to interact and create new musical collaborations with other artists and also bring people together.
“The festival is the first of its kind and I am overwhelmed by the support we got from Francistown residents. Majority of people have bought tickets and promotional t-shirts,” he said.
For his part, the organiser Batisane Maphane said this will give musicians an opportunity to create strong artist profile.
“New artists have the chance to perform on a festival stage and potentially gain some new fans as well as recognition,” said Maphane.
Sekga said this initiative is sponsored by Events Live and hope they will get sponsors as they look forward to including live band performances next year and also want to host a cultural and jazz festival. Ends
