25 Nov 2015

The Serowe Food Festival promises more than experiencing various cookery and dance as its programme is packed with a variety of activities.

The food festival slated for Serowe stadium on Saturday November 28 promises to cater for food lovers, music enthusiasts, business persons and chef wannabes. The festival, themed: A place to taste all Botswana authentic dishes and more, is the first of its kind.

In an interview, the event organiser, Monica Somolekae revealed that they would be hosting six chefs who would prepare different dishes at different times.

The chefs would take the audience along on the cooking methods and ingredients to use for various dishes.

She said the main chef of the day would be renowned master chef Mcjon Mosenene, who would be tasked with preparation of breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.

Another chef will do a variety of burgers, while others will concentrate on various cuisine including pasta dishes.

“We want it to be an interactive festival in which attendants can take something home with them.”

Somolekae said the essence of bringing the SMME and corporates entities is to afford those already in business and those intending to venture into business a platform to interact and exchange ideas.

The organiser said her motive of embarking on such an event was to boost businesses in Serowe and surrounding areas.

“I was concerned about the developments of Serowe, which are moving at a snails pace despite the village’s rich history. There is an economic value attached to such events as attendants will be spending their money on local businesses.”

Somolekae said the inaugural festival would be more of an international fair and were delighted the Namibian embassy has come to the party and would also share their cuisine.
She said the event would be held annually and that a number of embassies have expressed interest in partaking in the event in the future. She added that next year people would see more of the international community.

“We want to expose small business in our district and around the country, and also celebrate our diverse culture. We want people to taste delele, phane, tswii among others.”
Small businesses which are interested in partaking in the event have to go to the main kgotla to fill a form which qualifies them for half price.

On the music side, attendants will have a memorable time of 17 musicians, both local and foreign. Scar, Team Distant, DJ Kenzo, Chrome, Black Motion, DJ Bax are among those who will whisk the crowd.

Tickets are available at all OK furnishers and Shoprite stores countrywide and the event is expected to kick off at 8am. Ends
