Dream magazine celebrates 1 year
25 Nov 2015
After a year of hard work and sweat, Dream Magazine finally celebrated a year of existence amid fun fare with past cover features and models gracing the event that was held at the Bull and Bush.
Having started the bi-monthly lifestyle magazine last year, one of the co-founders, Charmaine Revaka said the publication tells Botswana’s untold stories, and that it was 10 years ago that she and Olivia Britz, another co-founder thought about starting a lifestyle magazine.
She said Botswana has a lot of unique stories that need sharing and they hope that they have done a great job so far.
“We will continue to unearth Botswana’s untold stories to make you smile and inspire you to be better,” she said, adding that they have invited one of interviewees they spoke to in one of their section which is the Dream interview.
“Her name is Dr Didimalang Sekoko-Biron, she is a clinical psychologist and she was in our April issue and we asked her to come and speak and share with us on our birthday,” said Ms Revaka.
Affectionately known as Dr Didi, she spoke enthusiastically about how hard she worked so that all the pieces fall together beautifully to complete the puzzle that is her life story and she feels that she is living her dream.
“In 2012 I did a vision board and when I did come across an issue of Dream, I felt like it was my magazine because it had all the good stories and I felt so connected to the writing and what really brought me to that place is that part of my job is listening to people’s stories and some of them I wish they could tell their stories to the world since I cannot because of confidentiality,” she said.
She said the magazine is a good platform to tell their untold stories and share with the world some of their amazing experiences and hopes that the magazine will still be here in 10 years. For her part, Britz said she believes they have instilled confidence in the market by going a step further.
“We have built strong relations and have taken a lot of initiatives and made strides to penetrate the market,” she said, indicating that their quality and distribution footprint is untouched.
She said she was impressed with the team they have put together, and that it has always been her dream to be part of something to brand Botswana.
As a lifestyle magazine, Dream has so far featured local role models, heroes and heroines, celebrating Batswana achievements, heritage and telling real human stories of dreams and hopes and the journey continues. Ends
