Mabutsane police are investigating a case in which a 30-year-old man of Mokhomma is suspected to have fraudulently acquired funds from the Youth Development Fund.
Mabutsane station commander, Superintendent Keitshokile Kebodiretswe, said the matter was reported to the police after the young man failed to produce invoices for buying the cattle that he had shown interest in.
It was reported that he was supposed to bring invoices for buying cattle and water supply payment as per procedure. He said preliminary investigations revealed that the man’s supposed supplier, a 38-year-old woman who resided in Jwaneng did not have cattle as per the affidavit made earlier.
He said the woman had confessed that the young man had made her give false information to the police while she did not have the capacity to supply such cattle.
Supt. Kebodiretswe said police investigations into the matter were continuing, adding that the suspect would face a possible charge of obtaining by false presences which carries an imprisonment term not exceeding seven years, while his accomplice could be charged for giving false information to a public officer.
