Shortly after breaking into the spotlight with their hit Schechela bana featuring kwasa kwasa icon Frank “Franco” Lesokwane, the duo of Ofentse Sebego and Kealeboga Ramongalo are now going places.
The two who go by the stage name, ‘The Animals’ have discovered a niche in the music market and decided to do kwaito-kwasa with a bit of house, not just guitar.
“We have discovered that many local music followers still love kwaito kwasa but they enjoy it with a bit of house, hence our decision to go that route,” said Sebego.
The highly energetic duo’s love of music can be traced to as far back as their junior school days where together with other two members who later quit due to school commitments, met and decided to form a music group to showcase their talent.
However, a Good Samaritan in Franco came to the rescue of the Animals.
“We were dancing at Franco’s wedding a few years back and that was when he saw the great potential in us and he decided to sign us under his stable,” added Ramongalo.
The two revealed that joining hands with ‘Lepako’ as he is popularly known in the music platform helped them grow their talent as he mentored them very well, and even toured with them to neighbouring countries such as South Africa and Namibia for various shows.
He said such a good relationship is the reason they are still working with him to date.
“Batswana have shown us great love and appreciated our music. In addition, we have a new video released in September and Batswana love it so much hence we were recently called to come and launch it at Tsabong and the reception was overwhelming,” said Sebego.
They said the DVD features the popular Gabane comedian, Oefile “Mawee” Mokgware.
In addition they disclosed that in order to maintain their top spot they decided to add “Nigerian beat” to their various songs and they are expecting a single in February next year.
The group also said that their doors are always open to artists who wish to work with them, especially in assisting to launch new albums.
The Animals currently have two albums to their name, and have worked with the likes of Dr Tawanda and Rudzi.
They however revealed that the issue of piracy is giving them sleepless nights because they do not get rewards for their hard work and determination.
“We want to urge Batswana to stop buying pirated music, we want to earn a living through our music,” said Sebego. Ends
