Art industry need support

Coordinator of Botswana Society for the Arts has called on stakeholders to support art industry.

Motshidisi Makhurutha said  government could not managed to support every sector, therefore there was need for others to assist as this will be a way of contributing to the economic diversification.

She was speaking in an interview after a workshop organised by Botswana Society for Arts in Maun recently. 

The workshop was meant to orientate artists on professionalism in arts and marketing strategies. 

However, Makhurutha urged artists to improve and nurture their talents as these could make a living out of it.

 On the purpose of the workshop, Makhurutha said in many instances artists took their talent for granted and failed to exploit it to make a living hence the importance of the workshop. 

The purpose of the workshop was also to instil professionalism in the creative industry, she said adding that it also gave artists time to network and share ideas. 

It was during the workshop that artists were taught about how to establish and manage their website, exploit technology and a come up with good brand names.

One of the participants, also an artist appreciated the workshop highlighting that he will use the knowledge acquired to improve his trade. Also he said artist had the potential to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economy.  Ends
