Concert starts on high note
08 Nov 2015
The President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama graced the annual BDF music concert which started on Friday November 6 at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks in Mogoditshane.
Other guests at the event were Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Thapelo Olopeng, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security Segakweng Tsiane and the Commander of Botswana Defence Force Lt Gen. Gaolatlhe Galebotswe.
In his brief welcome, the commander of BDF asserted that BDF bands will continue to host such music concerts in some parts of the country and donate the proceeds to charitable organizations so as to boost them financially to carry out their mandates.
Meanwhile some of the charitable organizations which received the donations included Lady Khama Charitable Trust at P50 000, Botswana Red Cross Society P50 000, SOS P50 00, Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind P20 000 and Annie Stine with a cheque of P20 000 also.
This year’s event was however characterised by energetic and hyped performance by groups from both SSKB and Francistown. The audience was taken by storm when the BDF performed their yesteryear hit song Are yeng bosoleng go setse bo mphabogobe.
Unlike in the past where the audience usually just sits and watched, this time around they sang along some favorite songs belted out by overzealous groups despite the fact that they were made of both the old and the fresh blood.
The BDF concert will visit Palapye, Selebi-Phikwe, Orapa, Jwaneng, Kanye, and Lobatse and wrap up in Ramotswa on December 12, 2015. ENDS
