Five men appear for stock theft

Five men have this week appeared before the Kanye magistrate Ms Bosele Busang in connection with three carcasses of cattle, suspected to be stolen stock.

According to the particulars of the case the five men were arrested near Mheelo cattle post in the Southern Administrative District in possession of suspected stolen  stock contrary to Section 39(1) as read with section 4(a) of stock theft Act N0: 21 of 1996.

 The five men are Tshabang Wamasole aged 47, Rabisa Setswalo aged 31, Kgosietsile Mapose aged 34, Oarabile Jeremiah aged 40 years, Moses Kehetse aged 27 years and the other one who is still at large.

Particulars of the offence are  that the five accused persons were found by police officers in possession of three carcases of cattle being tshetlha/tshetlhana skin, tlhaba/tlhabana skin, khunou/khunwana skin, one head and 12 hides reasonably suspected to be stolen stock valued at P12 000  

The state prosecutor Inspt. Goitsemang Sekgabo advised the court to deny the suspects bail on the grounds that the matter was still fresh adding they were in a process to engage an investigator. 

He feared that if the suspects were released they might interfere with investigations. Inspt. Sekgabo further argued they were still looking for the whereabouts of the sixth accused who is still at large.

The court remanded the accused persons in police custody while investigations continued. 

The Magistrate explained that the court would discuss the bail issue during the next mention date. She reiterated that the matter required proper investigations without any interference from the accused persons. Ends
