Sehithwa police are investigating an incident in which a 20-year old man raped his five-year old niece.

Acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Moutlwatse Ikobe, said in an interview that the incident took place in Sehithwa on Monday (November 2)  while the mother of the child was at work.

He said the child was under the suspect's custody, but after raping her, he took the child to her grandmother’s place and ran away.

When the mother returned home, Ass Supt Ikobe said, she found the child at her grandmother’s place and took her home. Assistant Superintendent Ikobe said the child told her mother what her uncle did and the mother reported the matter to the police.

The police arrested the suspect and he would appear before the Maun magistrate sometime this week.

Still in Sehithwa, police arrested 15 people from Maun and Etsha for fishing illegally at Lake Ngami on November 2..
