Jam For Brunch grows
02 Nov 2015
Jam For Brunch, the event that happens first Sunday of every month, has show signs of growth. The event was sold out for this month, coming off the heels of another sold out event last month.
Speaking in an interview, one of the three organisers, Zandile Rammekwa said Jam For Brunch was inspired by lack of quality day events where people can hang out .
“Jam For Brunch is a play on word; jam is to encourage people to join in on the jam session to recite, freestyle and join the band,” she said, adding that the event was a partnership between three people.
“Basadi Dibeela and Game Zeus Bantsi are the other two partners and we had the first event on November 2014,” said Zandile.
She said the event was also meant to grow food culture and unearth raw talent in the arts and help connect artistes/musicians with the right people that attend.
“Past jammers have been Angie Chuma, Mpho Sebina, Kabo Leburu and those have been our highlights so far,” she said. On how they managed to start off in terms of funding, Zandile indicated that Koo has been sponsoring them for the past three months and they are also looking to have more sponsors on board.
“We are looking to make Jam For Brunch a familiar brand and in two years we want to increase food and drink supply to meet audience demand. Our numbers have grown in hundreds so we also need quality control,” she said.
She indicated that they now have an in-house band to help jammers get into it but most people think it is a billed line-up and it takes a while to get spontaneous.
Speaking on the future and what they hope to see happen, Zandile said they wanted people to come with their own jars.
“Stickers are collectables and we give out new ones each month and we want people to collect and have different jars at their houses,” she said.
With the ticket prices at P50, some people have called for the increase in the fare so as to control the number of people who go there, but it remains to be seen how the organizers deal with the large influx of people who just want to enjoy the food, mingle and have a great afternoon. Ends
