Hundreds pay last respects to Klinck

Friends, relatives and colleagues converged in Francistown to pay their last respects to a media icon, Mr Micheal Klinck.

The Mahalapye-born Klinck, who was the fifth child of Ms Phillis Klinck, did his primary education at Our Lady of the Desert Primary School and his Junior Certificate at Mater Spei College before venturing into journalism and management related courses.

Mr Klinck, well known as Mike by his close friends, co-workers and classmates, worked for various companies including Cash Bazaar and Senn Foods.

Thereafter, Mike worked for the two Radio Botswana stations before advancing to an executive job at Barclays Bank of Botswana, the post he held for two decades.

A result-oriented and media enthusiast, Mr Klinck sat in various boards including being a chairperson of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology advisory council in 2012.

He bought Gaborone Broadcasting Company and joined ventured with E-TV to bring about E-Botswana, making him the first Motswana to own a television station.

A former co-worker and the bureau chief in the Department of Information Services north, Mr Leatile Chamo, expressed his condolences to the Klinck family, stressing that the diseased was a talented and gifted person who was inquisitive and result-oriented when he worked for the then Department of Information and Broadcasting Services.

Ms Regina Sikalesele-Vaka, a former classmate of Mr Klinck in the class of 1982 at Mater Spei College stated that the deceased was unique, brave and talented.

She said Mr Klinck was a sport person, an actor, a writer and a poet who liked to imitate both his teachers and priests.

She said that as a prolific person he went all the way to become a prefect and a heard boy during his school days.

Limkokwing media relations director, Ms Mercy Thebe said that Mr Klinck was enthusiastic, passionate and a committed person who liked to improve the lives of both students and graduates of Limkokwing by motivating them during graduation ceremonies and offering them internship thereafter.

Mr Klinck is survived by his mother, eight siblings, eight children and four grand children.ENDS
