Duo turns trash into beauty
25 Oct 2015
Each and every single person has something that they are good at; some are academically gifted while others are born with astonishing talent.
A pair of friends, Gloria Mashaba and Joy Kawana who are 33 and 22 years respectively and based in Lobatse are known for their interesting work of art.
They make beauty ornaments such as neckpieces, bracelets and earrings out of garbage materials.
Kawana mentioned in an interview that starting their business was not that difficult because most of the materials they use are readily available.
This is of course with the exception of glue, thread and fabrics for which they have to dig deep into their pockets to acquire.
Recycled resources among others; newspapers, plastics, wires, bottle caps and used zips are the duo’s primary materials.
Lack of employment and love for beauty and fashion motivated the two to venture into beauty ornaments business.
Although the business is still at its infancy stage, Mashaba remains hopeful of a positive growth going forward.
Due to high rental costs, the duo sell their products by displaying them in front of shops, during exhibitions and market days and many others.
Another challenge they are faced with is customers disappearing without settling their debts thereby reducing their profits.
That withstanding, promising entrepreneurs have also urged youth to utilize their talents to better their lives.
They cite patience, determination and vigour as their recipe for success. ENDS
