19 Oct 2015

Botswana’s High Commission in Namibia and Ghanzi District Council have entered into a tripartite partnership with the Omaheke Regional Council in Namibia to conduct a promotional activity in the build up to Botswana’s 50th independence anniversary.

This year’s celebrations have been slated for October 22-24 in Gobabis, Namibia at Legare Stadium, about 114 kilometres from Mamuno border in Charleshill.

The celebrations were aimed at celebrating cultural similarities between Omaheke and Ghanzi people.
Activities scheduled to take place include storytelling, poetry, music, sports traditional dance, horse races and many others.

The Botswana contingent would leave for Gobabis with 100 acts of performing arts groups mainly from the Ghanzi district, with popular kwasa kwasa star, Franco Lesokwane expected to be the main act since he is popular in the Omaheke region.

The horse race would feature only through breed horses from Botswana and Namibia.
The Ghanzi District Council chairman, Thato Tshweneyagae said the economic effects of the event can never be over-emphasised, as they hope to promote trade between the two nations of Botswana and Namibia.

Tshweneyagae said Batswana and people from Omaheke region involved in the event could learn from each other.
Many people involved, he said were those that were assisted by the council and many other government programmes such poverty eradication and youth programme beneficiaries.

“It is vital that we facilitate marketing of our many young talented artists so that they can export their trade and grow from being local to being global.  We will also be able to market our district in agricultural produces and artifacts,” he said.

Tshweneyagae thanked Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture and private entities for sponsoring the event. Ends
