19 Oct 2015
A young man of Molepolole was recently granted bail by Molepolole chief magistrate, Ms Faith Dlamini-Ngandu in order to sit for Botswana General Certificate in Secondary Education examinations (BGCSE) that are ongoing while his co accused remains in custody.
Giving the accused bail, Ms Dlamini-Ngandu ordered the accused, Motlhalefi Molebi to appear in court without fail on all dates set by the court, not to be a suspect in any matter pending the finalisation of the current case and to produce two citizen sureties each binding themselves with P2 000 payable upon breach of the bail conditions by the accused.
The accused, together with his co-accused Thabo Keaja, are charged with shop breaking. They applied for bail in the last mention.
The prosecution was ordered to find out if there were any arrangements in place for accused persons in regard to sitting for examinations, especially for Molebi to sit for his exams while in prison as the two were refused bail at that time. When briefing court, state prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Seth Tau of Molepolole Police told court that they enquired from the Botswana Examinations about the arrangements for prisoners who sit for exams, saying they responded in writing which he filed with the court.
According to the response by Botswana examinations, the accused has registered as a private candidate, hence he asked the state prosecutor if ever they liaised with officers at Kgari Sechele Senior School or KRDA which is a private institution in regard to their situation.
Assistant Superintendent Tau told court that he had liaised with officers from both schools, saying at Kgari Sechele Senior Secondary School officers said they do not have an invigilator as the accused would need a special room as he would be under escort, while at KRDA the officers said they could only assist if the accused pays for an invigilator.
He said taking all this into consideration they would not object to his application. Ends
