Quartet denied bail

Jwaneng Magistrate Court has postponed bail application for four murder accused persons pending a pathologist’s report.
The quartet of Othusitse Setlhotlhe, Golaotswe Chepete, Golaotswenyana Chepete and Andy Batshegi is accused of killing a 30-year-old man at Four Fathers Bar in Jwaneng last month.
The accused persons reportedly assaulted the deceased with a sharp instrument during a misunderstanding.
Their efforts to apply for bail two weeks ago hit a snag as the prosecution opposed the application owing to on-going investigations.
Magistrate Odirile Mokgatle also ordered that they be remanded in custody and should appear for mention again on May 16.
On another matter before the same magistrate, 27-year-old Lawrence Dintle of Kgosing ward in Thamaga was given conditional bail on grounds that he attends court as required and not commit a similar offence.
Dintle is accused of paying a public officer to steal his (the accused) docket from the police station and give it to him.
The accused allegedly paid one police officer the sum of P500 sometime in June 2011 for the docket that contained another case against him that was also before the court.
The prosecution requested for plea to be reserved because the accused will be tried at the High Court due to the nature of the crime.
The prosecutor informed the court that they were still preparing some documents so that the case could be committed to the High Court.
Dintle, however, did not object conditional bail and will appear again for mention on April 30. ENDS
