 A 28-year-old man of Nguvawuva ward in Sehithwa recently committed suicide after seriously injuring the mother of his two children with an axe.

According to Sehithwa Police station commander, Superintendent Sakawonde Masike, an argument started between the two after the deceased found out that the woman went to a beauty contest on September 29 without his consent.

Following the argument, the deceased took an axe and hit the woman on the head, said Superintendent Masike in an interview. Upon realising what he had done and thinking that the girlfriend was dead, Mr Masike said the deceased took to a nearby tree and hanged himself.

The woman is recovering at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital in Maun. Mr Masike expressed concern about the high number of suicide in his policing areas particularly during holidays.

He said couples should seek counselling whenever they were  having problems.

Meanwhile, still in Sehithwa Mr Masike said a man was murdered on September 29 around midnight at a drinking hole. He said investigations were  still ongoing while the man was at the mortuary awaiting postmortem. BOPA
