Culture moulds character
08 Oct 2015
Balete deputy paramount chief, Kgosi Tsimane Mokgosi, has encouraged his subjects not to forget their roots as traditional practices help build and mold character. He said this at the recent culture day celebrations in Ramotswa.
Mokgosi encouraged community members to embrace culture as a way of life.
The deputy district commissioner, Odiseng Moruti urged performers from around the village to put their level best in their craft, as song, dance and drama could potentially be their careers.
He said the success of performers was also determined by the support of their parents and community as a whole.
Moruti said the day was part of the preparations for the country’s 50th independence celebration next year, hence the performers needed to bring their level best for the celebrations.
One youth who stood out from the crowd was Omphile Lefutswe, whose captivating Setswana poem was centered on the fight against AIDS and youth empowerment.
The Otse Youth Artistes also displayed a play about performing arts and the obstacles youth in the field encountered. The play was also designed to open the public’s eyes on the importance of persistence on following dreams as well as hard work.
Instrumentalist Leboke Tau added some spice to the celebrations with his traditional instrument, segaba or serankure. A guitarist from Otse, Simon Matshogo did not disappoint either. Persia choir summed up the celebration of the day. Ends
