I fulffil promises - Khama
05 Oct 2015
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has informed residents of Tsokatshaa in the Nata/Gweta constituency that he fulfils promises.
Speaking in a kgotla meeting on Thursday, President Khama said he was aware that there were some people who give the public false information on the guise that such information originated from him.
He was responding to Kgosi Mathubae Makgate who said at one of their kgotla meetings they were informed that their village was going to get electricity as per the President’s instruction, only for the decision to be reneged upon.
Such misleading information, the President said, gives people false hopes and urged the leadership to desist from doing such.
President Khama said funds were scarce to tar their gravel road, adding that they consider the volume of traffic on a road, but promised to liaise with the relevant ministry to address their request.
Regarding elephants that caused damage to fields during the ploughing season, President Khama said the government would assist people to chase them away, adding that in some areas chilli pepper has been used to chase the animals away from people’s fields. He promised that he would urge relevant authorities to come to their aid.
He also appealed to them to help the government in controlling the movement of wild animals which also cause damage but not dangerous to human beings.
He noted that animals such as hyenas and Kudus could be controlled instead of people seeking compensation on damages caused by such animals. He, however, said the government took full responsibility for damages caused by animals such as elephants.
The Village Development Committee (VDC) deputy chairperson, Ms Kebeetswemang Beelang said they do not have community land because there was no division between the village and private owned ranches.
She pleaded with the President that an arrangement should be made with the owners so that villagers’ cattle could graze there. President Khama also donated blankets and snacks to the elderly and children. ENDS
